Journey - Neal Schon (guitar), Jonathan Cain (keyboards), Ross Valory (bass), Deen Castronovo (drums) and new lead singer, Filipino Arnel Pineda started their tour in June with the highly anticipated release of Revelation, a three-disc CD and DVD package sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores in North America.
Arnel Pineda and his new American rock band performed at the daytime NBC hit show Ellen DeGeneres on May 28, 2008. The legendary rock bands from Los Angeles are also teaming up with Heart and Cheap Trick to hit the road concert trail starting July 9 in Denver, CO through October 4 in Albuquerque, NM. The Revelation 1st disc consists of 11 re-recorded classics, the second is filled with 11 new songs, and the third is a live, in-concert DVD.
Journey can't believe that they are back with the same voice like they were in the ‘80s but in different person and this time, it’s Arnel Pineda, the Filipino who was discovered through video sharing website YouTube. "It's all brand new with this new friend," said bassist Ross Valory. "But it's also like we've returned to where we left off at the same time. It's just easy and comfortable."We got the magic back," he said. Deen Castranovo said he was driven nuts by not having a singer and being able to go out on the road. "I couldn't take it. I was goin' crazy." Journey’s lead guitarist Neal Schon desperately searched the Internet for a voice that could take Journey into the future by doing justice to its past and he hit pot. At the end of the rainbow, thousands mile away was a band named The Zoo covering The Eagles, Journey Led Zeppelin etc.. He immediately contacted his bandmates and the rest is another chapter in the history of American classic rock.
Journey debuted their new lead singer Filipino Arnel Pineda, at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival in Santiago, Chile on February, 2008.
Arnel Pineda was born in Sampaloc, Manila in the Philippines on September 5, 1967. He is a singer, songwriter and currently the lead singer of the American rock band Journey. In July 2006, Steve Augeri, lead vocalist of Journey began experiencing problems with his voice caused by a throat infection. The band replaced him with Jeff Scott Soto from Talisman, who was confirmed as the official lead singer in December 2006. On June 12, 2007, Journey announced that Soto was no longer the lead singer, and said that they were looking to move in a new direction. Videos of The Zoo performing cover songs by Journey began appearing on YouTube in February 2007. On June 28, 2007, Neal Schon of Journey contacted Noel Gomez, a longtime fan and friend of Pineda who uploaded many of these videos, to ask for Pineda's contact information. Schon sent an e-mail to Pineda inviting the latter to audition for Journey. Pineda initially dismissed the e-mail as a hoax, but after being persuaded by Gomez, he finally replied to Schon's e-mail. Ten minutes later, Pineda received a phone call from Schon. On August 12, Pineda, along with his manager Bert de Leon, flew to Marin County, just north of San Francisco, for a two-day audition. The star-struck Pineda was welcomed warmly but he described the audition as "nerve-wracking, tense". On December 5, 2007, Pineda was announced as the lead singer of Journey.
